Wei-liu Qiu, MD, PhD
Wei-liu Qiu, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, born in October 1932 at Chengdu, Sichuan Province, graduated from School of Stomatology, West China University of Medical Sciences in 1955. Prof. Qiu currently serves as the Honorary Dean of School of Stomatology, Director of Shanghai Stomatological Clinical Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Councilor of Chinese Medical Association, Honorary President of Chinese Stomatological Association (CSA), Fellow of International College of Dentists, International Association of Dental Research, American Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons, and Honorary President of Chinese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, CSA. He is the former Honorary President of Head and Neck Tumor Surgery, Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) and the Former Councilor of International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS).
Prof. Qiu is engaged in oral and maxillofacial surgery for over 60 years, specializing in oral and maxillofacial tumor surgery, maxillofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery, and TMJ surgery. He was awarded with 36 national prizes and Shanghai municipal prizes, etc. He served as an Editor-in-Chief for more than 20 published books and published more than 400 scientific papers. Prof. Qiu was honored to be awarded the highest honor “The Distinguished Fellow Award” by IAOMS in 2009.
Zhi-yuan Zhang, MD, PhD
Prof. Zhi-yuan Zhang is Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Distinguished Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, chief surgeon and doctoral supervisor.
From 1998 to 2014, he was the Dean of Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. At present, he is the Academic Leader of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, one of the National Key Disciplines. He is also the Director of National Clinical Medical Research Center for Dental Disease, the Director of National Research Center of Clinical Medicine for Oral Disease and Shanghai Key Lab of Stomatology. Currently, he serves as Honorary Chairman of Chinese Stomatological Association, Standing Council Member of Chinese Anti-cancer Association, Honorary Director of Head and Neck Tumor Committee, Fellowship of Royal Dental School of Edinburgh (UK), Fellow of the International College of Dentists, Honorary Fellow of College of Dental Surgeons, Hong Kong University, as well as Honorary Professor of Osaka Dental University in Japan and the Fourth Military Medical University in China. Meanwhile, Prof. Zhang is the Editor-in-Chief of Shanghai Journal of Stomatology, and the Editor-in-Chief of State-compiled Textbooks of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Prof. Zhang specializes in clinical and basic research of oral and maxillofacial-head and neck tumors as well as hemangiomas and vascular malformations. He authors 323 articles as the first author or the corresponding author, with 113 of which indexed in SCI. Particularly, Prof. Zhang successfully carried out the first prospective clinical trial of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in oral cancer in China. These findings were published in well-known academic journals, such as J Clin Oncol, Cancer Research, Oncotarget and Carcinogensis. He is also the editor of 13 monographs, associate editor of 5 monographs, and co-author of 12 monographs (2 in English).
He has been awarded 19 research grants at national, provincial and ministerial level, including one National “863” Project, one National Key Technology Research and Development Project for the 11th Five-year Plan, two key projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China and five grants from National Natural Science Foundation. The honors and awards that he received include Second Prize for Science and Technology Advancement by Chinese Government (twice), First Prize for Science and Technology Advancement by Shanghai Municipal Government (twice), Second Prize of the National Science & Technology Award Nominated by Chinese Ministry of Education, First Prize of Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Advancement, Third Prize of Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award.
His work has been recognized with Award of Outstanding Young Expert conferred by the Chinese Ministry of Health, Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, Outstanding Worker of National Science and Technology, Ten Elite Scholars of Shanghai Science and Technology. Under his supervision, six students have completed their postdoctoral research, fifty-five have received their doctoral degree, and fifteen have received their master degree.

Hong Jiang, MD, PhD
Dr Hong Jiang completed her Master’s in Anesthesiology and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Dental Medicine at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Her doctoral supervisor is Prof. Zhiyuan Zhang, an academician of the Chinese Engineering Academy, who is also known as one of the most outstanding oral and maxillofacial surgeons in China. After graduation, she came to Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and now she is serving as the Director of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. She also holds two adjunct appointments as Professor and PhD supervisor in Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
Dr Hong Jiang has been appointed as the permanent member of the Federation of Asian Dental Anesthesiology Societies (FADAS) Council since 2008. She was elected as Chairman of Chinese Society of Stomatological Anesthesiology from 2015 to 2018. Since 2018, She was voted as Chairman-elect of Shanghai Society of Anesthesiology. Since 2019, Dr Hong Jiang has also served as President of Chinese Society of Plastics and Aesthetics Anesthesia.
Dr Hong Jiang has been recognized for her contributions in advancing the discipline of perioperative managements especially for oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr Hong Jiang also has significant experience in scientific publishing, having served for three years as Deputy Editor of China of Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (JDAPM). Her areas of systematic research expertise include difficult airway management based on artificial intelligence, anesthesia and neurodevelopment, and head, neck and maxillofacial anesthesia. She has presided over 15 research projects founded by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) or provincial and ministerial level founds. Dr Hong Jiang has published more than 80 SCI papers. In addition, she has authorized more than 200 international and Chinese invention patents and other independent intellectual property rights. The research and application of anesthesia strategy and perioperative organ protection for head, neck and maxillofacial surgery, which she presided over and completed, won the first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2016, and The research of perioperative difficult airway management won the second prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2006. Dr Hong Jiang was also awarded National Pioneer of Women's Work, Shanghai Leading Talent, Shanghai Excellent Academic Pacesetter, Shanghai Pioneer of Women's Innovation, etc. These awards are given to individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to public health, medical education and disciplinary construction in China.
