Denise Battaglini is now working as a Consultant and Research Assistant in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at San Martino Policlinico Hospital in Genoa, Italy, and a PhD researcher in Translational and Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Barcelona, Spain. Over the last few years, she approached both experimental and clinical research, thus acquiring essential skills in research methodology, statistics, airway management, pulmonary infectious disease, respiratory physiotherapy, neuro and pulmonary critical care. She is now focusing her research interests on airway management, mechanical ventilation, microbiota modulation, and pulmonary critical care in specific subpopulations of critically ill patients such as those requiring neurocritical care and those with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
Denise Battaglini started her research career in 2016. In 2017 and 2019 she performed two research fellowships in Barcelona (Spain) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). During these six years, she has published around 90 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals (h index 18) and is a regular invited journal reviewer. She participated as faculty or chairman in many international congresses. She is an editor of Frontiers in Medicine, Frontiers in Physiology, and BMC Pulmonary Medicine. She is on the Board of Airway management group of the Italian society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care (SIAARTI), and NEXT Elect committee member of the European Society of Intensive Care (ESICM). She recently won a grant for a research project on pulmonary microbiota modulation.
